Summary
We're seeking a skilled and proactive Software Engineer with expertise in PHP (Laravel framework) and Node.js. Your primary focus will be to ensure the smooth operation, continuous improvement, and long-term health of our existing Laravel-based application while also contributing to backend services built using Node.js. This role involves translating business needs into actionable technical tasks, maintaining high code quality standards, and proactively addressing technical debt to enhance performance and stability.
Responsibilities and Duties
Rapid Service Development
Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to thoroughly understand feature requests and system improvement needs.
Translate technical requirements into detailed technical specifications, outlining the scope of work, proposed solutions, and estimated implementation time.
Implement the technical solutions you've defined, adhering to best practices for clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
Leverage your Laravel and Node.js expertise to build robust features, optimize existing functionality, and ensure seamless integration across services.
Application Operations and Optimization
Take ownership of system issues caused by application errors, promptly investigating and resolving them to minimize downtime and disruption.
Identify and analyze bottlenecks in application performance, particularly focusing on slow SQL queries and inefficient backend processes.
Refactor and optimise existing code to improve response times, reduce resource consumption, and enhance the overall user experience.
Implement caching strategies, query optimization techniques, and other performance-enhancing measures as needed.
Qualifications
Proven experience developing and maintaining complex applications using Laravel.
Working knowledge of building backend services using Node.js, including REST APIs and asynchronous workflows.
Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and query optimization techniques.
Ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and devise effective solutions.
Excellent communication skills to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus Skills
Familiarity with automated testing frameworks (e.g., PHPUnit, Jest, Mocha).
Knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for full-stack development.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (e.g., Docker).
